What will the research involve?
This research involves semi-structured interviews with people who are directly involved in the GCMF’s work, as well as a range of people working on media freedom issues more generally. These interviews will last approximately 45 minutes. We wish to ask questions that will help us to understand:
1) Who are the main actors driving the campaign? What are their values and priorities regarding media freedom?
2) What are the impact of campaign activities? Does it address the most pressing issues facing media freedom?
3) Does the campaign represent a shift in international governance of media?
The interviews are semi structured, meaning that we have prepared some questions in advance, but we may also ask follow up questions or pursue ideas that emerge in the interview.
We would ideally like this interview to be ‘on the record’, so that we may attribute your comments to a particular individual / member of an organisation. However, if you would prefer some or all of our conversation to be anonymised then we are more than happy to do this. We will confirm with you at the start of the interview what your preferences are.
This interview will be audio recorded and then transcribed by a professional transcription service. The transcript will be stored on a password protected shared file, accessible only to the research team.
